29-Year-Old Jealous Husband Injured Wife After Setting Rented House Ablaze

Date:

Police have confirmed that a man set fire to his rented home in Cakung, East Jakarta, out of jealousy toward his wife.

Cakung Police Chief Kompol Widodo said the suspect, identified as MA, 29, started the blaze after a heated argument with his wife. “Yes, there was a quarrel due to jealousy,” he told the media.

According to Widodo, the suspect was arrested in Cakung Timur on Friday and is currently being held at the Regional Police’s Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA).

Earlier, a rented house in the Cakung area was reported to have caught fire. Initial investigations revealed the blaze was deliberately started by the suspect following a domestic dispute.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Operations Section Head, Abdul Wahid, said preliminary findings indicated the fire was intentionally set after the suspect’s family argument.

As a result of the incident, the suspect’s wife was injured and immediately taken to hospital for further treatment.

“One victim suffered burns — Siti Nurkalisah, 33 — but no fatalities were reported. Five other occupants were successfully rescued,” he added.
