A man in his 30s suffered injuries to his legs and arms after being slashed by an unknown individual at the Paya Nahu Flats on Sunday.
Kuala Muda district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, said the district control centre (DCC) at Kuala Muda district police headquarters received a call from a member of the public at 3.55 pm reporting the incident.
“Initial information indicated a fight had taken place and that there was an injured victim. Investigations later revealed that the victim had been visiting his brother’s home at the housing complex at about 3 pm,” he said in a statement.
“However, upon arrival he was informed by his sister-in-law that his brother was not home, so he waited under the block. An unknown man then approached and slashed him without warning,” he added.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the suspect — believed to be in his 20s — had been intoxicated since early morning.
The victim, who is believed to have been attacked with a sharp weapon, was rushed to the Red Zone of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) for treatment.
“The suspect has been arrested and a remand application will be made tomorrow. Investigations are ongoing under Section 326 of the Penal Code,” Hanyan said.
