Forget The Gym — People Are Crawling, Leaping And Bounding Like Animals To Get Fit

Date:

A new workout trend has people bounding, crawling and leaping on all fours – and its devotees insist it’s not about cosplay. Called quadrobics, the unconventional practice blends animal-inspired movements with full-body training, promising serious strength and core definition.

Clips of young people running and jumping like cats, foxes or bears are exploding across TikTok and Instagram. Many wear masks, tails or paw-like gloves, but they stress quadrobics is not part of the “furry” scene, nor about identifying as an animal. Instead, they frame it as a raw, primal workout that tests balance, endurance and coordination.

“It’s definitely a full-body workout,” said TikToker Soleil, who posts as @wild.soleil. “I’ve lost weight, started to see definition and even got a six-pack. Try it for five minutes and you’ll be out of breath.”

While quadrobics borrows from the online therian community – people who say they feel spiritually connected to nonhuman animals – enthusiasts describe it as functional fitness. The moves mirror “primal movement” training: crawling, climbing, squatting and swinging, similar to what humans once did to survive in the wild.

Belgian-born filmmaker Alexia Kraft de la Saulx discovered quadrobics while shooting a documentary on primal training in Spain. She says climbing trees and running barefoot transformed her volleyball-honed body: “I really look strong now. It’s playful but intense.”

Trainers agree. U.S. weightlifting coach Jarrod Nobbe calls quadrobics “a legitimate full-body workout” that hammers the core, shoulders, lats, glutes and quads while elevating heart rate and boosting fat loss. He says it can also improve mobility, stability and mental focus.

Fans credit the workout’s unpredictability with easing stress and sharpening body awareness. “You enter a meditative state for sure,” Kraft de la Saulx said.

With no gym or equipment required, quadrobics offers an accessible, radically different alternative to traditional fitness. And while its cat masks and animalistic style might puzzle outsiders, its practitioners say the results – stronger bodies, calmer minds and a renewed sense of play – speak for themselves.
