A motorcyclist was injured and several vehicles were damaged after a grounding cable dangling from an MRT viaduct struck road users early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred on the road between the Sri Raya and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn MRT stations.
Rapid KL said preliminary checks at the scene found that the grounding cable had been cut, raising the possibility that it may have been targeted in a cable theft.
The injured motorcyclist received emergency treatment at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Kajang Hospital for further treatment.
Several vehicles also suffered damage to their bodywork and windows after passing through the affected stretch of road.
“Upon receiving information on the incident, Rapid KL’s technical team was deployed to the scene to conduct inspections and take immediate action. The cable was moved to ensure it no longer posed a risk to road users,” the operator said in a statement.
Rapid KL said inspections also confirmed that the MRT viaduct itself and the train operating systems were not affected by the incident.
“The Kajang Line train service is safe and operating as usual,” it said.
The operator added that it was working with the highway operator and relevant authorities to obtain further information and carry out a thorough investigation.
The cause of the cable being cut has not been confirmed, with the possibility of cable theft among the matters being investigated.
