No More RM10 Fees: MyKad Chip Replacement Now Fully Covered From 23 Sept to 7 Oct

Date:

The government will fully cover the cost of replacing damaged MyKad chips to ensure citizens do not face difficulties accessing targeted subsidies under the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) program.

Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, stated that this service will be provided free of charge at all National Registration Department (JPN) counters from 23 September to 7 October.

“The government is committed to covering the full cost during this period to ensure that citizens’ access to these subsidies will not be affected due to technical issues with their MyKad,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that this move aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement regarding the implementation of the BUDI95 initiative.

Previously, each MyKad replacement due to a damaged chip incurred a processing fee of RM10.

According to JPN records, a total of 294,715 applications for damaged MyKad replacements were recorded from January to August 2025.

The trend has shown a significant increase over the past three months, with 32,819 applications in June, rising to 40,371 in July, and 45,411 in August. For September alone, up to the 21st, 22,858 applications have been received.

“Based on the average of the past two months, JPN estimates around 43,000 damaged MyKad chips each month. The total cost for providing free replacements is estimated to reach RM714,660, including other related expenses,” he explained.

Saifuddin also reminded citizens to ensure their MyKad remains in good condition.

“MyKad is not only an identification document but also the key to accessing various government facilities, including the BUDI95 targeted subsidy,” he emphasized.

He stressed that the government upholds principles of care and inclusivity to ensure no citizen is left out of the benefits promised.
