The implementation of the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) program by the Madani Government marks a forward-looking reform aimed at preventing billions of ringgit in annual subsidy leakages.
Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, stated that the reform ensures the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy is enjoyed exclusively by Malaysian citizens, closing loopholes previously exploited by foreigners who do not pay taxes.
“With BUDI95, government subsidies are now distributed accurately and fairly, specifically for Malaysian citizens. This is proof of the Madani Government’s commitment to protecting the people while ensuring the nation’s finances remain sustainable and stable,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the price of RON95 petrol will be reduced from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per liter starting 30 September under the BUDI95 initiative.
He clarified that this measure applies only to Malaysians, while non-citizens will have to pay RM2.60 per liter after that date.
BUDI95 is available to all Malaysian citizens holding a valid MyKad and driving license, with a monthly entitlement ceiling of 300 liters, excluding e-hailing drivers. The process is straightforward via MyKad at petrol stations, counters, or through the Setel or Touch ’n Go apps.
Nga Kor Ming added that the BUDI95 initiative also reflects the Madani Government’s dedication, under Prime Minister Anwar’s leadership, to balancing public welfare with fiscal responsibility.
“BUDI95 not only reduces the cost of living for the people—at RM1.99 per liter, one of the cheapest petrol prices in the world—but it also stops subsidy leakages that have cost the nation since independence. This embodies the spirit of Malaysia Madani, ensuring no one is left behind and every sen spent benefits the people,” he said.
