The wife of a Malaysian firefighter missing in Nepal has joined a local disaster relief team to help search for her husband and members of his expedition group, who remain unaccounted for following severe flooding.
Hani, who travelled to Nepal to search for her husband, Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, confirmed on Saturday (Sept 5) that she would work alongside local non-governmental organisation Samundra/Himalayan Leaders.
“I am heading to the affected area from Nuwakot to Betrawati with the NGO,” she said in a Facebook post, sharing preparations by the team as they got ready to transport aid towards Trishuli.
Mohd Fakhrul, affectionately known as “Loe”, was reportedly caught in a flash flood while travelling through a valley in Rasuwa district. Fire and Rescue Department operations deputy director Mohd Sani Harul was also reported missing from the same expedition.
While coordinating efforts to locate the missing group, Hani has also been helping flood victims, distributing donations from Malaysians to victims and orphans in Kathmandu on behalf of the nine-member “Team Loe”.
She also met the wife of the driver who had transported her husband’s expedition team. The driver and several other survivors reached Kathmandu on Friday after being rescued from Timure.
“Throughout the time I have known them, they have all been good people — generous and always willing to help others,” Hani said.
“May Allah ease all efforts to locate them and protect them, wherever they may be,” she added.
