‘Don’t Be Malaun’: PAS Ulama Chief Warns Members Against Undermining Party

Date:

Unwavering obedience and loyalty to PAS leadership will be crucial to the party’s efforts to reach Putrajaya and lead the country, said PAS Central Ulama Council chief Datuk Ahmad Yahya.

He said unity among members and their willingness to abide by decisions made by the party were essential to ensuring its political struggle and plans could succeed.

Ahmad said PAS members needed to maintain a strong sense of unity, likening it to the steadfastness shown by the companions of Prophet Muhammad when they faced trials before the Battle of Badr.

He cited the words of companion Miqdad bin ‘Amru, who expressed his support for the Prophet following discussions involving the Muhajirin, Ansar, Aus and Khazraj.

“Proceed as Allah has shown you, and we are with you,” Ahmad quoted Miqdad as saying.

He said the account demonstrated how consultation and unity in decision-making should ultimately be followed by complete loyalty and obedience to the leadership.

Ahmad was speaking during his winding-up speech at the 72nd PAS Annual Muktamar at the Islamic Education Centre of Kelantan (PUTIK) in Pengkalan Chepa on Saturday.

He also recalled a reminder from PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang on the importance of genuine loyalty within the party.

Ahmad said Hadi had once joked that many people would claim to be “behind” the PAS president during debates, but there was sometimes no one there when he turned around.

“Therefore, once a decision has been made, obedience and loyalty are very important in our movement. Let us give our highest obedience and loyalty to the leadership as we follow the path that has been laid towards achieving success,” he said.

Ahmad also made a light-hearted reference to the term “walaun”, which is often used to describe staunch PAS supporters.

“Let us be called walaun. Walaun is not a problem; just don’t be malaun,” he said, using the term to refer to those who undermine or damage the party.
