Man Found Dead Under Slope After Going Alone To Pick Duku

Date:

A 52-year-old man was found dead at an orchard behind a fertiliser store opposite the Padang Ipoh Agriculture Office in Kampung Lebak, Kuala Berang, on Saturday.

Hulu Terengganu district police chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab said police received information about the incident at about 11.30pm.

He said preliminary investigations found that the victim had gone to the orchard alone to climb a duku tree leased by his employer.

“The victim was later discovered missing when his employer went to the orchard to collect duku fruit that had already been picked but could not find him.

“The employer then informed the victim’s family about the matter,” he said in a statement today.

Sharudin said the employer and the victim’s family subsequently searched the surrounding area.

The victim was eventually found lying face down below a slope nearby by his eldest brother.

A medical officer from the Kuala Berang Health Clinic who arrived at the scene confirmed that the man had died.

His remains were taken to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination.

Police also advised the public to prioritise safety and inform family members or close friends whenever carrying out activities alone.
