PAS has accused DAP of taking an inconsistent position on the decision to grant Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA), claiming the party’s current stance does not match its previous political narrative.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said statements and actions by several DAP leaders following the 2023 decision showed that the party had not taken decisive action to reject the decision.
He claimed DAP’s position had shifted following recent political developments involving Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“When BN was taking a clear approach to working with PN in the Negeri Sembilan state election, with the possibility of that understanding extending towards the next general election, suddenly the dusty DNAA case, almost three years old, is being brought up again.
“When Ahmad Zahid ensured BN became the bridge for DAP to enter Putrajaya, the DNAA could be swallowed. When Ahmad Zahid and BN began to be seen as a possible bridge towards cooperation with PN, the DNAA suddenly became a matter of principle,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Ahmad Fadhli also criticised remarks by DAP National Legal Bureau chairman Ramkarpal Singh, who described a statement by Pengkalan Kundor assemblywoman Mardhiyyah Johari as mistaken and said she was unaware of the party’s position.
He claimed Ramkarpal should not lecture Mardhiyyah on the issue’s history when the assemblywoman had merely referred to records published by DAP itself.
“Anthony Loke (DAP secretary-general) respected the court’s decision and called for an explanation, while Nga Kor Ming (national deputy chairman) stressed that DAP continued to support the government and later went down to assist Umno during the Ayer Kuning by-election.
“If the understanding between BN and PN had not resurfaced today, I seriously doubt Zahid’s DNAA would suddenly have become such a concern for DAP.
“It is these records that prove that DAP’s problem with Zahid’s DNAA is not merely hypocrisy. Worse, it is now trying to convince the public that it has consistently opposed the decision all along,” he said.
Ahmad Fadhli added that the DNAA involving the Umno president was now a matter of history and academic discussion.
“Talking about it after accepting it for several years only confirms that you are a great liar,” he said.
