Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has rejected claims that ongoing investigations into corruption, abuse of power and misappropriation are motivated by revenge or jealousy.
Anwar said he was not directly involved in investigations carried out by enforcement agencies, while decisions on whether to prosecute were under the jurisdiction of the Attorney-General.
He said his responsibility was to ensure the government was administered according to the law, particularly in efforts to curb corruption and prevent the misuse of public funds.
“Some parties claim that this is driven by revenge or jealousy. In reality, I am not the one conducting the investigations. They are carried out by the enforcement agencies.
“The Attorney-General and his team scrutinise every detail of a case before deciding whether to file charges. The judges are the ones who impose sentences,” he said.
Anwar said his role was to ensure the administration operated according to laws and regulations, stressing that corruption and misappropriation must be addressed and should not be reduced to ordinary political disputes.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) today.
Anwar also stressed that enforcement action must be guided by justice and transparency, regardless of an individual’s position or rank.
He said the government would continue to uphold the rule of law and ensure enforcement decisions were made based on the merits of each case.
