UiTM To Review Safety Procedures After KKEC Tragedy

Date:

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has pledged full cooperation with the authorities in any investigation into the incident involving students during the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) 2026.

UiTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Ts Dr Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the university would also conduct a comprehensive review of the event, including its safety procedures, health screening, risk management and emergency response measures.

“UiTM views this incident very seriously and will not take lightly any matter involving the safety and welfare of its students.

“The university will provide full cooperation to the authorities in any related investigation, while reviewing all aspects of the event, including safety procedures, health screening, risk management and emergency response,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Shahrin said UiTM would take the necessary steps to improve and strengthen every process involved, stressing that the safety, health and welfare of its students could not be compromised.

As an immediate measure following the incident, UiTM also cancelled the outdoor activities scheduled for Sept 6 as part of KKEC 2026.

The move comes after one participant died while eight others were hospitalised after experiencing health problems during the endurance challenge at UiTM Jengka in Maran.

Shahrin said the university’s immediate priority was to continue supporting the family of the late Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal and ensure the welfare of all affected students.

“Student safety, health and welfare have always been UiTM’s priority,” he said.

He also urged all parties to respect the privacy and feelings of the deceased’s family as well as those whose family members remain under medical treatment.

Shahrin further called on the public to avoid speculation or sharing unverified information, warning that such reports could increase the anxiety and distress faced by the affected families.

“UiTM will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide official updates from time to time based on verified developments,” he said.
