The Johor state government will cover the medical and rehabilitation costs of two-year-old Nur Haira Wafiqah Muhammad Hamizi, who was seriously injured after being attacked by five stray dogs in Kampung Tambak, Peserai, Batu Pahat, on Saturday.
Johor Islamic Religious Affairs executive councillor Mohd Fared Mohd Khaled said the girl’s family should not have to worry about the financial burden while she undergoes treatment.
“The family does not need to worry about the costs. If doctors recommend treatment and the parents give their consent, the treatment will continue and the costs will be borne by the state administration,” he said.
He added that an officer would be assigned to liaise directly with the hospital to facilitate arrangements involving the medical expenses.
Mohd Fared, who is also Semerah assemblyman, said this after visiting Nur Haira at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) in Johor Bahru on Tuesday.
He said Nur Haira remains sedated and requires intensive medical care, with doctors expecting her recovery to be a lengthy process.
Mohd Fared also said the emotional wellbeing of Nur Haira’s family, including her 12-year-old brother, would be given attention by the hospital.
He said the family should be offered counselling services to help them cope with the trauma following the attack.
