Date:

Two people were killed while another was injured after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and crashed into a tree along Kilometer 134 of Jalan Kuantan-Johor Bahru on Tuesday.

Rompin district police chief Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the crash happened at about 7.30pm and involved three people who were related.

He said the driver, R Vijay, 27, died while receiving treatment at Rompin Hospital, while his 17-year-old uncle, P Vijayan, who was seated in the rear, died at the scene.

The third passenger, M Tanush Kumar, 16, who was Vijay’s cousin, suffered bodily injuries.

“Preliminary investigations found that the three victims, who worked at a car wash, were travelling from Rompin towards Kuantan.

“When they reached the location, the Proton Iswara they were travelling in is believed to have lost control before skidding off the road and crashing into a tree on the left side of the road,” Sharif Shai said.

He said the bodies of the two victims were taken to the forensic unit at Rompin Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
