Serian’s Air Quality Turns ‘Very Unhealthy’ As API Hits 213, Nine Areas Unhealthy

Serian in Sarawak recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading this afternoon as haze continued to affect several areas nationwide.

The monitoring station at the Serian District Police Headquarters recorded an API reading of 213 as of 4.30pm, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

Eight other areas in Sarawak also recorded unhealthy air quality, with Samarahan at 186, Kuching at 183, Sarikei at 174, Miri Industrial Training Institute at 166, Samalaju at 165, Sri Aman at 159, Bintulu at 157 and Mukah at 151.

Outside Sarawak, several areas in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor also recorded unhealthy readings. Batu Muda recorded 169 and Cheras 159, while Johan Setia registered 161, Shah Alam 157, Banting 154 and Klang 118.

Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 157, while several areas in Pahang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Melaka also remained in the unhealthy category.

In Pahang, Jerantut recorded 161 and Temerloh 140. Johor saw readings of 159 in Segamat, 155 in Batu Pahat and Kluang, 152 in Tangkak and 127 in Larkin.

In Negeri Sembilan, Nilai recorded 157, Seremban 155 and Port Dickson 117, while Tanjung Malim and Tasek Ipoh in Perak recorded 156 and 154 respectively.

In Melaka, Bukit Rambai recorded 156, Alor Gajah 152 and Bandaraya Melaka 105.

Nationwide, 31 areas recorded moderate API readings, while five areas reported good air quality.

Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and readings above 300 hazardous.
