The body of a 37-year-old man was found in a drain about 1.5 metres deep near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Hussein Onn in Taman Kelisa Emas on Friday.
The man was discovered by members of the public, who found him lying face down in the drain before alerting the authorities.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Fire and Rescue Operations Division director John Sagun Francis said the department received a call from police at 12.10pm requesting assistance to retrieve the body.
He said a team from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene four minutes later and found the victim inside the drain.
“Upon arrival, the operation team confirmed that a body was in the 1.5-metre-deep drain.
“The operation commander then instructed personnel wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) to retrieve the body and bring it to a safe location,” he said.
The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to police for further action.
The operation, involving five personnel including a supervisor, ended at 12.47pm.
