Man Detained After Mother Found Dead With Sharp Weapon Injuries In Tambunan

Date:

A 31-year-old man has been detained to assist investigations into the death of his 56-year-old mother, who was found with injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon at a rented house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, on Friday.

Keningau district police chief Superintendent Erwansyah Abdul Basir said police received a report about the woman’s death at around 2pm.

“Initial investigations found that the victim had sustained injuries caused by a sharp weapon,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Police subsequently traced the victim’s son, who was later found and detained by villagers at a sulap in Kampung Sukung, Tambunan.

The villagers brought the suspect to the Tambunan police station, where he was formally arrested by officers from the Keningau district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department.

Investigators and forensic personnel inspected the scene and seized several items believed to be linked to the incident.

The victim’s body was also sent to hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Erwansyah said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“Further investigations are still being conducted to determine the motive and the full chronology of the incident,” he said.
