The Prisons Department has denied allegations of double standards over the release of former Sabah infrastructure minister Datuk Peter Anthony under the Licensed Prisoner Release Programme (PBSL).
The department said Anthony remains under supervision while serving the remainder of his sentence in the community.
It stressed that his eligibility for the programme was assessed using the same process applied to other prisoners.
“He was considered for PBSL only after reaching the stipulated eligibility period and undergoing the same screening and assessment process applied to other prisoners considered for the programme,” the department said in a statement.
The department’s clarification came amid claims that Anthony had received preferential treatment in being released under the programme.
