A 50km police chase involving a Proton Wira ended with the arrest of two men after officers allegedly discovered suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle in Kota Tinggi early on Saturday.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the incident occurred at about 12.35am and involved Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) personnel from the district police headquarters’ Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.
He said the officers had ordered the car to stop along Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, but the suspects allegedly ignored the instruction before speeding away and driving dangerously.
“The pursuit continued for about 50km from Jalan Tun Sri Lanang towards Ulu Tiram and ended at Km31.5 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing, near the Taman Sri Saujana traffic lights.
“Through the swift action and cooperation of the MPV personnel, the vehicle was successfully stopped and two local men, aged 33 and 44, were arrested,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Checks found that both suspects had previous drug-related offences and were wanted by police, while urine screening returned positive for methamphetamine.
The two suspects have been remanded for four days from Sept 12 to Sept 15 to assist investigations.
