A mother’s last home-cooked meal for her son was left untouched after he was killed in a crash involving his motorcycle and a lorry near his workplace.
Samsiah Kassan, 67, said she had prepared sambal chicken for her youngest son, Mohamad Shahrul Azizi Sa’adon, 29, to take to work on the day of the accident.
“He did not get to eat the sambal chicken I packed for him.
“That was the last meal I cooked for him before I found out that he had died in the accident,” she said when met at her home in Kampung Parit Simpan, Senggarang, on Saturday.
The accident happened at about 7.30am on Friday near the factory where Mohamad Shahrul worked.
Samsiah said her youngest of four children had eaten the breakfast she prepared before leaving home for work as usual. She said she had felt like cooking for him that morning and packed the sambal chicken in a container for him to bring along.
Not long after he left home, Samsiah received a call informing her that her son had been involved in an accident.
“My body started shaking as I could not believe the news I had just received,” she said.
Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the crash occurred at Kilometre 116 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Melaka at about 7.30am.
He said the victim was travelling from Senggarang towards Tanjung Laboh when his motorcycle collided with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction, which is believed to have lost control.
Mohamad Shahrul suffered severe injuries to his head and legs and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 47-year-old lorry driver sustained injuries to his hip.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction.
