Drone surveillance has uncovered a plastic scrap processing factory believed to be responsible for green, foul-smelling water flowing into a public drain along Jalan Udang Galah in Telok Gong on Friday.
The discovery was made during an integrated operation that began at 9.30am following complaints about water pollution and unpleasant odours from the public drain in the area.
Royal Klang City Council Corporate Communications director Norfiza Mahfiz said monitoring, including the use of drones by the Department of Environment (DOE), led authorities to the plastic scrap processing factory suspected of causing the pollution.
A further inspection found that the wastewater treatment plant at the premises was not operating fully and was not being used to treat all wastewater generated from washing the plastic scrap.
“The DOE Selangor has ordered the operation of the plastic scrap washing machines to be stopped and collected samples for further action,” she said in a statement today.
She added that a notice of intention to revoke the factory’s licence had also been issued against the premises.
The discovery has raised concerns over the risk of continued pollution if the wastewater treatment system remains only partially operational.
