At least 16 people were killed in a fire at an elderly care home in southern Chile on Friday afternoon, according to local media, German news agency dpa reported.
Several media outlets, citing authorities, said the blaze broke out at the care facility near the town of Pitrufquén.
Images published by Chilean newspaper La Tercera showed huge flames engulfing the roof of the building as the fire spread.
Authorities said 26 people were inside the care home when the fire broke out.
Ten people were rescued from the building and taken to hospital for treatment after suffering injuries.
Firefighters and rescue teams from neighbouring towns were deployed to the scene to assist with the emergency response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities said.
