Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, Director of Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd, was brought before the Sessions Court today to face a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM145.5 million linked to the construction of the Putrajaya-Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Expressway (MEX II).
Dressed in a dark grey suit, Abu Sahid pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him by the court interpreter before Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin.
The court allowed Abu Sahid, who was in a wheelchair, to remain outside the dock throughout the prosecution’s proceedings.
“I understand, Your Honour… not guilty,” he said after the charge was read.
According to the charge sheet, Abu Sahid, as Director of Maju Holdings, was entrusted with control over company funds but is accused of dishonestly misappropriating RM145,550,000, which had been deposited into an escrow account at Maybank Islamic Berhad belonging to Golden Base Construction Sdn Bhd.
The alleged offence took place at Maybank Islamic Berhad, Taman Serdang Perdana, Section 2, in the Petaling district of Selangor between 12 January 2018 and 13 June 2018.
If convicted, the offence under Section 409 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, whipping, and a fine.
