A truck driver was burned to death after a fire broke out while he was sleeping inside his vehicle at a petrol station in Rayong, Thailand, on Sept 13.
Emergency services rushed to the petrol station along the Ban Bueng-Klaeng section of Highway 344 in Klaeng district after receiving reports that a truck was on fire with a person trapped inside.
The truck, which was transporting a tractor, had stopped at the petrol station while the driver took a rest.
A petrol station employee said flames were spotted coming from the truck before an explosion was heard. The employee and another truck driver immediately grabbed fire extinguishers and managed to bring the blaze under control.
After the fire was extinguished, rescuers discovered the driver, identified as 37-year-old Pholawat from Phitsanulok, dead inside the badly damaged cab.
Initial inquiries found that Pholawat had been sleeping in the front section of the truck and had left a fan plugged in to charge before the fire broke out. He was reportedly unable to escape after the flames quickly spread through the vehicle.
Police initially suspect an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, investigators have yet to confirm the exact cause of the blaze.
