Police are appealing for relatives and family members of missing persons who have been uncontactable since Aug 19 following the discovery of an unidentified man’s body in an aircraft’s wheel bay at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The appeal is aimed particularly at those who may have relatives or acquaintances who were known to have been around KLIA during the period, as police work to identify the victim.
KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Ravi said an investigation paper was opened under the sudden death report (SDR) procedure on Aug 27 after the body was discovered at Terminal 2 (KLIA2).
“Efforts are now underway to trace the victim’s relatives or family members to assist with the identification process and further investigation into the incident.
“Members of the public who have family members or acquaintances reported missing or who have been uncontactable since Aug 19, 2026, particularly those believed to have links to or were known to have been around KLIA, are urged to go to the nearest police station or contact the KLIA district police headquarters,” he said in a statement.

The man’s body was discovered on the morning of Aug 27 inside the wheel bay of an aircraft that had arrived at KLIA2 after flying from Tokyo, Japan.
Engineering staff reportedly found the body while inspecting the aircraft’s wheel bay after detecting a foul smell.
The victim was not carrying any identification documents and is believed to be aged between 17 and 25 based on his physical build.
An initial examination found no visible signs of injury on the body.
At the time, the man was wearing a white hoodie with a dragon design on the back and the word “OAKLEY” on the front, light blue jeans, a brown leather belt, socks and black sports shoes.
The body was subsequently sent to the Serdang Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
Police are continuing their investigation under the SDR procedure and hope information from relatives or acquaintances of missing persons during the relevant period will help establish the victim’s identity and assist in the investigation.
