A Seoul court on Wednesday ordered North Korea to pay 44.6 billion won (US$32.5 million) in damages over its demolition of an inter-Korean liaison office in 2020, Yonhap News Agency reported.
The ruling marks the first judgment in a lawsuit filed by the South Korean government against North Korea.
The case was brought in June 2023 by South Korea’s then-conservative government, led by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The lawsuit was filed over North Korea’s demolition of the inter-Korean liaison office in June 2020.
Yoon was later removed from office after his short-lived declaration of martial law in December 2024.
