Man Uses iPhone 17 Launch To Propose, Name’s Pun Melts Netizens’ Hearts

Date:

A man in Beijing recently wowed the internet with a highly creative marriage proposal — he chose the launch day of Apple’s iPhone 17 series to pop the question, using the name of the new phone as a pun on his girlfriend’s name.

According to multiple media reports, the man’s girlfriend is named Feng Shiqi, and “iPhone 17” in Mandarin sounds almost identical to “Ai Feng Shiqi,” which means “Love Feng Shiqi.” He cleverly turned this wordplay into a unique proposal that quickly went viral online.

In other words, “iPhone 17” = “Ai Feng Shiqi” = “Love Feng Shiqi”.

A video posted by Da Xiang News on Weibo shows the man proposing in a park on September 19 — the very first day the iPhone 17 went on sale. Kneeling on one knee with a ring in hand, he asked, “Will you marry me?” He then pulled out a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro and said, “This is iPhone 17. I swear I will forever love Feng Shiqi.”

The man revealed he had been planning this since the beginning of the year, waiting specifically for the iPhone 17 launch. “I’ve been waiting six months for the release. The moment it went on sale, I ordered it through Meituan Flash Delivery and went straight to propose,” he said.

In front of family, friends, and bystanders, Feng Shiqi happily accepted the proposal, sparking cheers and applause.

The story spread rapidly across social media, with netizens flooding the comments to congratulate the couple and praise the man’s originality. Many wrote, “This is truly how you play with puns” and “Using an iPhone to confess your love can actually be this classy!”
