The toy bricks found inside a box initially suspected to contain a bomb outside a shoplot in Sri Petaling on Monday were actually equipment used for training and team-building activities, police said.
Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the director of a company that organises such activities had contacted police to confirm that the plastic box belonged to his company.
“The box and the items inside it were game equipment belonging to his company and used for team-building activities. There is no link to any criminal activity,” Hoo said in a statement today.
He said further checks found that the company offered a game called “Radioactive Bomb”, which is designed to encourage teamwork and improve participants’ mental agility.
The company also provided police with a PDF module explaining the game for reference.
Hoo said the box contained 20 plastic toy bricks and had been accidentally left outside the shoplot by one of the company’s employees after a team-building programme in Ipoh, Perak, on Sept 11 and 12.
The employee had taken the equipment with him after the programme but is believed to have accidentally left the box behind while travelling home.
Hoo said the employee was believed to have forgotten the box due to fatigue following the team-building programme.
A bomb disposal unit was deployed on Monday after the suspicious plastic box was found outside the shoplot and initially recorded high radiation levels.
The unit disposed of the box, which was later found to contain several smaller boxes holding what appeared to be Lego blocks.
Further checks by the Atomic Energy Department confirmed that no radioactive readings were detected at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
