Cable theft has once again drawn attention in the district after a 13-second video showing a four-wheel-drive vehicle allegedly fleeing with stolen cables went viral on social media on Tuesday night.
The incident took a more serious turn when a police officer was reportedly slightly injured after a cable being dragged by the vehicle struck the motorcycle he was riding while he was pursuing the suspect vehicle.
The viral footage showed a red pickup truck apparently pulling cables along the road while being chased by two police officers on motorcycles.
Kluang deputy police chief Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi Husin, when contacted, confirmed that police were taking action over the incident.
The video has since drawn widespread reactions from members of the public, with many calling for stern action to curb cable theft, which not only causes financial losses but can also endanger members of the public and enforcement personnel.
