Umno has raised almost RM1 million through the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund to help former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak settle a RM50 million fine, the party’s secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.
In a Facebook post today, Asyraf said the fund had reached almost RM1 million as of 9.30am and urged supporters to continue contributing, including donations as small as RM10.
The fundraising drive was launched by Umno following the announcement that Najib had received a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house detention until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and other conditions.
The fund had earlier collected RM634,562.02 within its first three hours, according to Asyraf.
The conditional pardon was granted at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
Under the order, Najib must comply with all conditions imposed. Failure to do so could result in the pardon being revoked, requiring him to serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
