Woman Found Dead In River After Allegedly Rejecting Co-Worker’s Sexual Advances

Date:

A 24-year-old woman in Bengkulu, Indonesia, was allegedly killed by her co-worker after she rejected his invitation to have sex, according to reports.

The victim, Indo Melvi Yunadatia, 24, also known as IMY, was found dead in the waters of Sungai Kampung Bahari in Kampung Melayu, Kota Bengkulu, at about 6am on Monday.

Her family reportedly became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding her death and lodged a police report.

Police subsequently arrested RPP, 25, also known as R, who was identified as the last person known to have been with Melvi before the incident.

Initially, RPP allegedly claimed that he killed Melvi because he was angry after she had repeatedly mocked him for having dark skin since their secondary school days.

The pair had reportedly attended the same school before later working together at SPPG Padang Serai. RPP worked as a security guard, while Melvi was a volunteer with the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

In a video cited by TribunBengkulu.com on Friday, RPP claimed the alleged remarks about his skin had continued from their school days until they worked at the same place.

However, the alleged motive later emerged as being linked to Melvi’s rejection of his invitation to have sex.

According to RPP’s alleged confession in the video, he said the resentment he had kept after being rejected eventually turned into revenge.

RPP also allegedly admitted to suffocating Melvi by covering her mouth before throwing her body into the river. He reportedly placed a stone inside her clothing in an attempt to prevent the body from floating to the surface.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
