All leaders, including politicians from across the political spectrum, should play the role of peacemakers rather than inflame tensions when disputes arise, said UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
He said such a role was important to prevent disagreements from escalating and ultimately affecting the people.
“When rulers are at odds with one another, leaders regardless of their political background should act as peacemakers, not as people who fuel and intensify the dispute,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Akmal said the people would ultimately bear the consequences if disputes between leaders were allowed to drag on.
“We hope the rulers too can work towards reconciliation,” he added.
However, the Merlimau assemblyman did not specify the dispute or situation he was referring to in his post.
