A 43-year-old unemployed man was charged at the Magistrates’ Court today with murdering his wife in Taman Tiram last week.
Vikneswaran nodded in understanding after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah.
However, no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, Vikneswaran allegedly murdered his wife, S. Sila, 39, at a house in Taman Tiram between 6.30pm and 9.04pm on Sept 14.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, with at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Preeyaa handled the prosecution, while Vikneswaran was not represented by a lawyer.
No bail was offered, and the case will be mentioned again on Dec 8.
On Sept 15, reports said a suspected argument between the couple, believed to have been linked to jealousy, ended in tragedy after Sila was allegedly stabbed 13 times.
She reportedly suffered seven stab wounds to the chest, five to the abdomen and one to the right rib.
Following the incident, Vikneswaran allegedly went to Lunas Police Station himself and told police that he had stabbed his wife.
