A 31-year-old local man has been charged with murdering his 56-year-old mother at a house in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan.
Elekson Langak was brought before Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry at the Magistrate’s Court here today, where no plea was recorded as he was not represented by a lawyer.
The accused is alleged to have murdered his mother at around 2pm on September 11 at the house in Kampung Katagayan.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years upon conviction.
If the court does not impose the death penalty, the law also provides for caning of at least 12 strokes.
Prosecuting officer ASP Daniel Dominic appeared for the prosecution.
The court denied bail and ordered the accused to be remanded under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The case has been fixed for mention on October 29.
