Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying it will take effect on the date former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is released from prison.
Loke said the letter was submitted yesterday as a statement of his position on the matter.
“The resignation letter was submitted to the Prime Minister yesterday and will take effect on the date Najib is released from prison,” he said at a press conference today.
Loke had earlier announced his intention to step down as Transport Minister following the decision to grant Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
His decision was made by the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC), while other DAP ministers and deputy ministers were to remain in the Unity Government.
The development comes after Prime Minister Anwar had said last week that he was still waiting for Loke’s official resignation letter.
