Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for medical observation following the death of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
According to a report by Buletin TV3, their son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir said Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN at around 9pm on Tuesday.
Mokhzani said his father’s condition was currently stable and not a cause for concern, adding that the decision to admit him was made so he could receive closer medical attention following the emotionally difficult period.
“He was admitted to IJN for observation. The past two days have been very difficult for Tun M. At the moment, he is okay and his condition is not worrying,” Mokhzani said.
Siti Hasmah died at the age of 100 and was laid to rest at Pusara Negara at around 6.30pm on Monday with full Istiadat Pengebumian Pembesar Negara.
The funeral ceremony was led by Captain Ahmad Saufi Md Isa from the Malaysian Army Headquarters and attended by eight officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police.
The couple had been married for about 70 years.
