A Form Four student was killed while his younger sister was injured in a crash involving three motorcycles along Jalan Sungai Buaya in Kampung Batin, Seberang Takir, Kuala Terengganu, on Tuesday evening.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, identified as Ahmad Areesy Zafreen Ahmad Azhar, died at the scene from severe injuries to several parts of his body.
He said the crash occurred at about 5.10pm when the victim, who was riding a Modenas Kriss from Kampung Batin towards Seberang Takir, attempted to overtake a vehicle before colliding with a Honda EX5 travelling in the opposite direction.
“The Honda EX5, ridden by an 18-year-old male teenager, was then hit from behind by another motorcycle travelling in the same direction,” he said in a statement today.
The two motorcycle riders were injured and taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for treatment.
The victim’s younger sister, who was riding pillion on his motorcycle, was also taken to the same hospital for medical attention.
Azli said the victim, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Tunggal, was pronounced dead at the scene before his remains were sent to the HSNZ Forensic Department for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police also urged parents to remain vigilant, monitor their children’s activities and pay close attention to their safety when they are riding motorcycles.
