A 31-year-old lorry driver was killed after his vehicle crashed into the rear of a trailer truck at KM231.9 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) early on Wednesday morning.
Rembau district police chief Superintendent Ngiam Ooi Ming said the accident occurred at about 12.30am, with the driver of a Scania R450 lorry suffering fatal injuries and being pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations found that a Volvo FL10 lorry carrying a load of bricks was travelling from Jasin, Melaka, to Sendayan, Negri Sembilan, when the crash occurred.
Ngiam said the Volvo lorry was travelling uphill when it was allegedly hit from behind by the Scania, which was travelling in the same direction.
“The Scania lorry driver sustained serious injuries and died at the scene. The 51-year-old Volvo lorry driver was uninjured,” he said in a statement.
The victim’s body was taken to the Rembau Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
