Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has expressed sympathy for three teenage boys who were injured by an electric shock during a religious procession in Mergong, Alor Setar, on Tuesday night.
In a statement, TNB said the incident was believed to have occurred when a flagpole carried during the procession came too close to a high-voltage transmission line, triggering an electrical arc.
The utility company expressed hope that all three victims, who are receiving medical treatment, would recover soon.
“TNB will provide full cooperation to the authorities to assist with further investigations,” it said.
Kosmo! had earlier reported that the teenagers were injured after a flag carried during a tokong sayur procession in Mergong came into contact with an electrical substation line.
Following the incident, TNB urged the public to prioritise safety at all times, including ensuring that tall objects such as flagpoles remain a safe distance from power lines to prevent similar incidents.
