Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli has urged the public not to judge individuals over alleged links to the New Age Movement (NAM) without first seeking clarification from those involved.
She said it was unfair to condemn someone based solely on allegations that they followed, practised or spread NAM teachings without giving them an opportunity to explain themselves.
Marhamah stressed that people should investigate and verify information before forming opinions or believing stories circulating about an individual.
“Before making a judgement or believing what we hear, why not remember Allah’s message in Surah al-Hujurat, which calls on us to practise tabayyun — to investigate and verify information,” she said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
She added that she had been in Parliament until late the previous night, but no effort had been made by the Pokok Sena representative to meet her personally to seek clarification on the issue.
“It is very unfair to judge me based on only one side of the story. I would like to urge everyone to practise tabayyun. May our struggle for Islam not be limited to speaking loudly, but also reflect good character in the way we fight for our cause,” she said.
Marhamah was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Ahmad Saad (PN-Pokok Sena) regarding the New Age Movement, which had been linked to her.
