Four MPs Approved For Parliamentary Services Council

Date:

The Dewan Rakyat has approved the appointment of four government and opposition MPs to the Parliamentary Services Council under the Parliamentary Services Act 2025.

The four lawmakers are Ram Karpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor), Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam), Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran) and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the proposed appointments were agreed upon by the Selection Committee on Oct 13, in accordance with Section 3(2)(f) of the Parliamentary Services Act 2025.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that the council would comprise four MPs, with two representing the government and two from the opposition.

Anwar said the Selection Committee had agreed to nominate the four lawmakers to serve on the council during its meeting on Oct 13.

Under the Act, the four nominees proposed by the committee were to be accepted and approved by the Dewan Rakyat, he added.

Meanwhile, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the motion did not need to be debated because both sides of the House had agreed to all four nominations.

He said the House had heard the motion tabled by the Prime Minister and would ordinarily proceed to debate it.

“However, as I understand and confirmed yesterday with both sides that they had agreed on all four names, I believe there is no need for a debate,” he said.
