Perikatan Nasional (PN) can use PAS’s logo as an alternative to contest the upcoming Melaka state election following the cancellation of the coalition’s registration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said using the PAS logo would not be a problem, as the party’s emblem was already widely recognised by voters.
“PN can use the PAS logo to contest the Melaka state election,” he said.
Sanusi, who is also PAS’s central election director, meanwhile described the cancellation of PN’s registration as a “mafia-style” move, alleging that the government was desperate to curb the coalition’s growing influence ahead of the next general election.
“It is rare for governments around the world to cancel the registration of opposition parties, except under dictatorial and communist regimes. Malaysia is behaving like a mafia; they are desperate,” he said.
The RoS had earlier announced that PN’s registration was cancelled after the coalition’s explanations and representations failed to refute the grounds for cancellation stated in a previous notice.
