A motorcycle pillion rider was killed after falling onto the road and being struck by a motorcycle and a lorry in a three-vehicle accident on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound at KM412.4 on Friday night.
The accident is believed to have occurred at around 11.45pm when a Honda RS150R carrying the victim and a rider was travelling from Tanjung Malim towards Rawang.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent M Manimaran said the motorcycle allegedly struck an unidentified object in the emergency lane, causing its front tyre to burst and throwing both the rider and pillion rider onto the road.
“A Yamaha LC135 travelling behind then struck the Honda RS150R’s pillion rider, who was lying in the left lane.
“Shortly afterwards, a lorry travelling in the same direction also hit the pillion rider before continuing its journey, apparently unaware of the accident,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to the forensic unit at Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for a post-mortem.
Both motorcycle riders sustained minor injuries and were taken to Slim River Hospital for treatment.
Manimaran said police received information about the fatal accident at around 12.05am on Saturday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are tracing the lorry involved and have urged anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting traffic investigating officer Inspector Mohammadi MT Abu @ Ramli at 03-6064 1222 or any nearby police station.
