The Kuala Lumpur Police have warned that traffic offenders in the capital will face immediate fines starting October 1.
KL Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the move follows a month-long advocacy campaign under Op Patuh Undang-Undang (Op PUU), which showed many road users were still ignoring traffic regulations.
“No more warnings. Offenders will be fined immediately if traffic violations are observed,” he said, noting that the previous advocacy period had little impact as many motorists remained stubborn.
From September 6, nearly 70,000 advisory notices were issued in high-traffic areas, highlighting frequent offences such as double-parking, stopping on pedestrian crossings, running red lights, and improper helmet usage.
Fadil emphasized that enforcement will be continuous, 24/7, throughout Kuala Lumpur, and not seasonal, to instill long-term discipline on the roads.
Authorities will also leverage social media to publicly highlight offenders, aiming to shame and educate the public.
“Our goal is not just to enforce the law but to cultivate a culture of compliance. We want Kuala Lumpur residents to set an example with traffic discipline on par with developed countries,” he added.
