A 39-year-old TikToker who sells laksa was fined RM4,500 by the Magistrates’ Court on Sunday after pleading guilty to insulting a woman’s modesty by calling her a prostitute in a WhatsApp message.
Nur Hazwani Mustapha entered her guilty plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Vinoshen Raveentharan.
She was accused of using insulting words against Nur Faezah Sohaimi, 33, by describing her as a prostitute in a WhatsApp message.
The offence was allegedly committed at 11.30am on November 1, 2025, in Kampung Dusun Muda.
The charge was brought under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Baihaqi Mohd Saidi handled the prosecution, while Nur Hazwani was represented by lawyer Muhammad Husni Mubarak Ghazali.
In mitigation, the defence lawyer asked the court to impose a lighter sentence, citing his client’s circumstances as a single mother of four children aged between six and 17.
He also told the court that Nur Hazwani earned about RM50 a day from her laksa business.
The court subsequently fined her RM4,500, which she paid.
