11-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car Outside Sabah School

Date:

An 11-year-old Year Five pupil was seriously injured after being hit by a Proton Waja outside Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Darau in Kota Kinabalu early on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 6.10am, leaving the boy with a bleeding head injury.

Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrudin Mat Husain said the car was driven by a 69-year-old man.

He said the vehicle was travelling from Manggatal town towards a supermarket when the boy crossed the road using the pedestrian crossing in front of the school, moving from right to left.

“Due to the short distance, the driver was unable to avoid hitting the pupil in the right lane, causing the boy to be thrown forward,” he said in a statement.

Following the accident, the victim was taken to Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS) for further treatment.

Shahrudin said the boy suffered a bleeding head injury and was treated at the hospital’s Emergency Department, where he was placed in the Red Zone.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to assist with investigations by contacting investigating officer Sergeant Mazlan Mursalam at 012-303 6605 or visiting the nearest police station.
