Police have arrested three local men to assist investigations into a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 46-year-old firefighter in Port Dickson on Monday morning.
Port Dickson district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Afiq Mohd Adnan said the suspects comprised the 32-year-old driver of a Toyota Vios and two friends, aged 31 and 32.
The two friends are believed to have helped conceal the car and remove its registration plates in Puchong, Selangor, following the accident.
The incident occurred at around 8.05am along Jalan Pantai, near Kilometer 2.6, involving the victim’s Honda ADV160 motorcycle and the Toyota Vios.
Ahmad Afiq said both vehicles were believed to have been travelling from Telok Kemang towards Port Dickson.
“Upon reaching the location, the car is believed to have made a U-turn, causing the motorcyclist travelling behind it to attempt to avoid the vehicle.
“He subsequently collided with the right side of the car before falling into the opposite lane,” he said in a statement on Monday night.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment in the Emergency Ward of Port Dickson Hospital.
The car driver allegedly fled the scene after the crash.
Ahmad Afiq said the driver was arrested at Serdang district police headquarters at around 6.30pm on Monday, while his two friends were detained in Puchong.
Police checks found that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence. The vehicle’s road tax and insurance had also expired.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police will apply for remand orders against all three suspects at the Port Dickson Court on Tuesday.
