A chief executive officer (CEO) of a fruit and vegetable wholesaling, import and export company has been arrested over suspected fraud involving the purported purchase of a durian orchard worth approximately RM1.65 million.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at around noon on Monday when he arrived to give a statement at the commission’s headquarters.
Preliminary investigations suggest the alleged offence took place in February 2024.
However, the purported purchase of the durian orchard is believed never to have taken place.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest when contacted.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating.
The suspect is expected to be charged at the Shah Alam Court on Tuesday morning.
