A secret relationship between two co-workers based in Johor Bahru was exposed after they were caught allegedly committing khalwat at a resort in the early hours of Saturday.
The pair, both believed to be in their 20s, were detained by enforcement officers from the Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAINJ) during an operation at about 12.20am.
According to a JAINJ enforcement statement, officers went to the resort room and rang the doorbell several times before a man eventually opened the door.
Upon entering, they found a woman sitting on the bed. The man initially claimed that they were husband and wife.
However, neither could produce marriage documents, while their accounts differed when officers questioned them separately.
The man reportedly went on to provide details of their alleged marriage, including its date and location, but the woman admitted that they were not married.
Further checks revealed that the man already had a wife, while the woman was unmarried.
JAINJ said the pair were colleagues who frequently met for work-related matters.
Officers also found men’s and women’s clothing inside the room’s wardrobe, indicating that they had been staying at the resort.
The couple were believed to have travelled from Johor Bahru by car before checking into the resort.
Both were arrested under Section 27 of the relevant enactment for the offence of khalwat.
JAINJ urged members of the public with information about similar activities to contact its hotline at 07-2076429.
