Police are investigating reports of mysterious late-night knocking at homes in several villages and residential areas in Jerantut, which have left residents worried.
Jerantut district police chief Superintendent Nor Azman Yusof said investigations were underway to verify the claims and identify those believed to be responsible.
He said police patrols had also been stepped up around residential areas to ease public concerns.
“Police are also providing safety advice and holding meetings with local community leaders,” he said.
Residents previously claimed that loud knocking sounds had repeatedly been heard at their doors around midnight since early Thursday morning last week.
At least 20 houses in the Kampung Sajang (Simpang Tebing Tinggi) and Perias areas were reportedly targeted.
The incident gained attention on social media, with residents sharing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the alleged occurrences.
However, the mystery deepened as residents reportedly found no one outside their homes when they went to check after hearing the knocks.
Nor Azman advised the public to remain alert and follow the safety guidelines previously issued by the police.
He also urged anyone with information about the incidents to assist investigations by contacting the Jerantut district police headquarters at 09-266 2222.
“Members of the public are also advised against making speculations or sharing unverified information, as this could cause unnecessary anxiety and misunderstandings within the community,” he said.
